Jacqueline's speaking engagements since the publication of her
books have allowed her to enjoy the freedom of speech denied her
during childhood. Her first speech, at the Medical Auxiliary in
Sacramento, took place on September 22, 2001, eleven days after
the devastation of the Twin Towers. Her emotions about such a horrific
act empowered her speech. Her audience applauded and claimed, "Powerful
and inspiring."
On October 31 of the same year, she spoke before two classes of
junior high school students at San Diego High School. Students who
were down about the loss of the Twin Towers became inspired, and
those who had problems at home decided to listen to their "nice
parents" from then on.
Jacqueline spoke at the Monarch school in San Diego, and returned
to her home with her heart full of joy. The students there are homeless,
but she saw an eager-to-learn group of young people with high hopes
for a future. She donated some of her books, and a complete set
of Learn How To Write books, which had helped her become
a writer.
In April, 2002, she spoke at The Civic Club in Stillwater, Minnesota.
"A very informative and inspiring speaker" claimed the
attendants.
On March 20, 2003, she spoke to the high school students at Loyola
Academy in Chicago. Fifty students had each purchased a copy of
Beyond Mud and Vines, and
they expressed great appreciation for her work. "We can hardly
wait to read the sequel" (Yearning
to be American.)
Jacqueline enjoys sharing her stories with people who are looking
for inspiration and hope. She is a member of the San Diego County
Medical Society Alliance, and the National Storytelling Network.
In the writing field she is a member of the National Association
of Women Writers, and a new member of the San Diego Writers/Authors
Guild.
Jacqueline has come a long way from the hills of Puerto
Rico, and has worked extremely hard to accomplish stability
and fulfillment.
